TENNIS STAR ANGELLA OKUTOYI MEETS GRAND SLAM CHAMPION NOVAK DJOKOVIC
Kenya’s tennis sensation Angella Okutoyi has achieved a career milestone, meeting with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic as she intensifies her push to transition to the full-time professional tennis circuit.

The meeting comes at a moment for the 22-year-old, who recently completed her studies at Auburn University in the United States with an outstanding collegiate record of 27-5. Okutoyi has added two professional titles on the ITF circuit and currently holds a World No. 454 ranking in WTA singles.
However, the path forward is complicated by the substantial financial demands of professional tennis, including international travel, elite coaching andtraining expenses.
Despite a previous public pledge of support from a government official, Okutoyi has yet to receive the promised sponsorship. The funding shortfall has prompted the 2022 Wimbledon girls’ doubles champion and her team to launch a fundraising campaign through M-Changa, targeting KSh 10 million from the Kenyan public and global supporters.
“Professional tennis is a fiercely competitive sport of the tens of thousands of players who start out with the ambition of making it to the top, only the Top 125 in the world are able to cover their playing costs,” Okutoyi said. “And the journey to the Top 125 is a tough and an expensive one favouring players from wealthy backgrounds and wealthy nations.“
