Bolt Send Reaches 1Million Deliveries in Under a Year
Bolt’s on-demand and same-day parcel delivery service, Bolt Send, has surpassed one million completed deliveries in Kenya. This achievement came less than twelve months after its official relaunch in September 2025, positioning Kenya as the fastest-growing established Send market worldwide.
Order volumes in Kenya rose by more than 135% between January and July 2026. By August, Kenya was operating 67 percent ahead of Ghana on a comparable two-wheel delivery basis, having moved ahead of it in May 2026.
Both of Bolt Send’s delivery categories have contributed to this expansion. The two-wheel motorcycle category, which became a separate product in February 2026, recorded growth of over 130% from January to July.
The four-wheel car delivery service, launched in Nairobi in March 2026, broadened the offering to include larger and bulkier items that motorcycles cannot carry. A typical Bolt Send delivery covers 9.4 kilometres, highlighting the service’s contribution to the daily movement of goods across Nairobi from businesses dispatching stock and documents to individuals transporting parcels within the city. Couriers on the platform have sustained an average rating of 4.84 out of 5.
To enhance delivery security and accountability, Bolt Send has added PIN verification to its parcel handover process. Customers booking a delivery may opt to activate PIN verification; the recipient then automatically receives a unique PIN through their app. During handover, drivers are asked to input the PIN, and the delivery cannot be finalised until the correct code is entered. This feature provides an extra layer of verification, helping ensure parcels reach their intended recipients.
Usage trends indicate that Bolt Send has become embedded in the working week rather than being used only occasionally. Fridays see the highest delivery volumes, at 23 per cent above the daily average, as businesses finalise orders, restock and meet end-of-week deadlines.
Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager, Rides, East Africa, said: “Reaching one million deliveries in under a year is a clear signal that Kenyans need delivery services that are reliable, accountable and built for how they live and do business. As the only app-based delivery platform with a full National Courier Operator licence from the Communications Authority, we are well placed to scale that service responsibly. With Mombasa now on board, we are taking Bolt Send to more customers and businesses across Kenya.”
This milestone follows an important regulatory step. In August 2025, the Communications Authority of Kenya gazetted Bolt as a National Courier Operator, allowing the formal relaunch of Bolt Send the following month. Roughly 95.7 per cent of all Send orders ever placed in Kenya occurred after the gazettement, highlighting how decisively the regulatory approval unlocked growth.
In July 2026, Bolt obtained its full National Courier Operator licence, providing the service with a stronger basis to serve businesses and engage more fully in Kenya’s formal logistics ecosystem. The licence allows Bolt to pursue opportunities with corporate clients, retailers and e-commerce businesses that need formal courier services and dependable delivery infrastructure.
Nairobi represented over 95% of Send volumes between January and July 2026, underscoring the capital’s role as Kenya’s largest hub for commerce and digital activity. Motorcycle deliveries were extended to Mombasa in August 2026, signalling the start of Bolt Send’s national expansion. With its port operations, tourism sector and extensive retail ecosystem, Mombasa offers a substantial opportunity for a service centred on moving goods for individuals and businesses alike.
Customers can also use Bolt Send to transfer parcels to long-distance bus termini for onward transport to destinations such as Kisumu, Nakuru or Meru, linking app-based last-mile delivery with Kenya’s existing intercity transport networks.
With the regulatory framework now in place and the service growing beyond Nairobi, Bolt is focused on maintaining the momentum that brought it to one million deliveries while preserving the service quality that has characterised its growth.
