Senator Crystal Asige Removed from Roads, Transport & Housing Committee

Nominated Senator and musician Crystal Asige has been removed from the Senate Committee on Roads, Transport & Housing, a decision she describes as punishment for her advocacy on behalf of persons with disabilities.

The senator, who has been a vocal champion for inclusive transport, mobility, sustainable cities, and accessibility in the built environment, took to social media to express her disappointment over the ouster. “Today everyone’s getting it!“ she wrote, addressing the leadership’s decision.

Asige was appointed to the committee where she tirelessly advocated for the rights of over 8 million Kenyans living with disabilities rights that are enshrined in the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Act of 2025.

Her work focused on ensuring that Kenya’s transport infrastructure, housing policies and urban planning were inclusive and accessible to all citizens, regardless of their physical abilities. “Everyday, I come to this house diligently to do my job, to execute the business of those I was brought here to represent, and I do it well even with a disability,” she stated.

The removal comes amid what the Senator has described as a pattern of targeting by Senate leadership. While no official reason has been given for her removal from the committee, she has made it clear that she views the decision as punishment for her outspoken advocacy. “If this is punishment by the leadership, so be it,” she declared, refusing to back down in the face of what she perceives as political retaliation. “One thing that people ought to know is that God has a knack for turning a bad situation into a glorious occasion!” she wrote.
