Betty Bayo’s brother Edward Kang’ethe Mbugua, also known as Ng’esh, took to social media to mark the official end of the inquest into his sister’s death. I

In the post, he confirmed that medical evidence had established the cause of death as AMN, and that he had finally found closure. He wrote that 10 November 2025 was the day he lost his “blood sister,” while 1 October 2026 marked the day she could finally rest in peace and that he was now at peace.

Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, popularly known to her followers as Betty Bayo, passed away at Kenyatta National Hospital. Initial reports suggested leukaemia or blood cancer complications as the likely cause.

However, her family was not convinced by the early explanations. Through their lawyers at Omenke Andeje and Company Advocates, Betty’s mother, Joyce Wairimu Mbugua, filed a formal petition on 9 December 2025 with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Inspector-General of Police.

According to the family, Betty had no documented history of chronic or underlying illness, yet early accounts attributed her death to a severe blood condition. They also stated that they were never granted access to her medical records or treatment information, and that no postmortem findings were ever disclosed to them. Further they alleged that her burial on 20 November 2025 was rushed, fueling suspicions of a possible cover-up.

In response to the petition, the Director of Public Prosecutions called for fresh investigations and instructed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to examine the circumstances surrounding Betty’s death.
