‘MY FAMILY SUPPORTED ME’ SHAFFIE WERU TELLS HIS SIDE OF THE STORY AFTER GETTING FIRED

Radio personality Shaffie Weru has talked about what happened before and after he was fired by Homeboyz Radio. Speaking on What’s Your Story on KTN Home, Shaffie said, “First, it wasn’t my show, I had not been on air for two years. I was the boss at Homeboyz Radio, the host of the breakfast show was G Money but he had covid. I stepped in for him for two weeks and on the third week on Wednesday I touched on a story that I did in 2019.

I saw the story on paper and we planned for it, I did not make reference to the story but I mentioned her name. When you plan a show, every hour you must have something big that you put on the show. I picked on something that I did not fully grasp and I went ahead and gave it my own twist and that is what brought me to where I am now.”

He said he would do things differently, “Bringing a reference to a story where there was is an issue of sexual consent, rape or domestic violence, you should always be thoughtful of the victim. That’s why I took my L and even after the whole debacle, when the people said whatever they said whether it was true, lies or twisted.  I accepted it and took it as a lesson and it has given me perspective on how to move on.”

Shaffie says he has reached out to the gander-based violence victim Eunice, “I have been trying to reach Eunice but there are so many legal ramifications when dealing with issues that are in court.”

About his demand letter, he adds, “The issue is I have my benefits and all the things that I need them to settle. Then I’m good. The first 48 hours I tried to remove my radio in the car so that I could not listen to them. They reminded me of the betrayal. Right now, I listen to them, I realised blocking my colleagues‘ won’t assist.”

He said his family and close friends supported him, “my mum was called and told I was on radio abusing women; she was mad and losing it until I sat her down and explained it to her. I respect women so much, if I had hate for women, I wouldn’t be associated with any of them. My family and close friends supported me. I will always respect women, I come from a religious background that is Islam where women are to be respected and obeyed.”
