LIST OF CELEBRITIES WHO HAVE WON ELECTIVE POSTS

Kenyans went to the polls on August 9 for the fourth general election after the promulgation of the new constitution. Even as tallying continues, some celebrities who were contending for different political seats have been declared duly elected. This has gone a long way in changing the political dynamic and allowing people of different status in life to serve their country. Buzz Central takes a look at celebrities who took a shot at politics and got elected to serve people in their respective areas.

DNG

Self proclaimed number one hype man Davidson Ngibuini alias DNG won the MCA seat in the Woodley Kenyatta Golf Course on a UDA ticket, DNG beat P-Unit’s Gabriel ‘Gabu’ Kagundu.

Taking it to his Instagram, he thanked people for making him their leader, “Thank you for burning the midnight oil with me. I am happy to announce that 24 Hours into it, we have clinched the Woodley Kenyatta Golf Course Ward MCA Seat!” Adding that they worked hard campaigning despite the odds but they overcame all as a result of team work, “We fought hard as a Team. We have campaigned hard as a team and have overcome all odds as a team. Most importantly, God has seen us through.” 

Gabu conceded defeat and congratulated the winner and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi saying he will take his lessons for the next attempt, “I take this opportunity to congratulate the winner of the Woodley Member of County Assembly seat. In every race there is a winner and the one to accept defeat. We ran a good race, we did the work but this was not our time. We will take the lessons learnt and come back stronger next time.

I wish to thank my supporters, my team, and my good friends. You walked with me every step of the journey, you believed in my vision to serve the people of Woodley. You encouraged me, mentored me, supported me financially, I appreciate each and every one of you may God bless you abundantly. My gratitude also goes to the ANC Party Leader Hon. Musalia Mudavadi and the Kenya Kwanza Fraternity for giving me a chance to represent them on the ballot.”

Jalang’o

Former Kiss FM breakfast show presenter and Youtuber, Phelix Odiwour popularly known as Jalang’o, beat UDA’s Nixon Korir to win the Langata MP seat on an ODM ticket. His main competitor, Korir conceded defeat after Jalang’o was announced the winner, “To the people of Langata, I  sincerely thank you for according me an opportunity to be your Member of Parliament for the last 5 years.

Its been a great opportunity that gave me an avenue to contribute to our nation building and service to the people. From the results that we’ve tallied at the Generali centre, my competitor Jalango has a lead and I want to congratulate his as he prepares to take the mantle and move Langata forward. Siasa si chuki. God bless Langata,” Korir stated.

Eko Dydda

Gospel musician Eko Dydda surprised many when he won the MCA seat in Mathare North WardEko took to his Instagram account to say it was not just his win, “Congratulations to everyone who voted for me, that was a landslide win.” Adding, “Mathare north is in safe hands development and partnerships all over the world to empower watu wote. mungu mbele siku zote #MCAMathareNorth.

Robert Alai

Controversial blogger, Robert Alai won the hotly contested MCA seat in Kileleshwa. Alai had earlier said he was eyeing the Nyando MP seat but later quit to vie for MCA seat in Kileleshwa. He thanked his supporters for believing in him, “Thanks to Kileleshwa voters, family, friends and just the many anonymous supporters who believed that I had the credentials of a change maker,” He urged Nairobi residents to do their part in making life better, “Let’s make Nairobi better. Let’s make it good for future generations. Let’s reimagine empowerment.”

It was not a win for all celebrities, comedian Mc Jessy took to his social media to concede defeat and congratulated his competitor Dr Shadrack,  “I sincerely thank you so much for the time we have interacted during our campaign time. It has been a great journey. A journey of amazing political adventure. A journey of daring hearts. We will continue to engage as we look forward to Next time. I personally want to congratulate my worthy competitor Dr Shadrack as he prepares to be the new Mp for South Imenti. To my supporters, take heart it’s just politics, let’s keep moving, South Imenti as one great community. God bless you all.”

Popular radio presenter and reggae emcee Njambi Koikai who vying for the Dagoretti South parliamentary as an independent candidate also conceded her defeat “I wish to congratulate the winner (yet to be announced) on their election and I wish them well in advancing the hopes of our constituents,” she said.
