‘MY FIRST SALARY AT KTN WAS SH5000’ BETTY KYALLO RECALLS

By  |

Celebrated media personality Betty Kyallo has disclosed her first salary.

Speaking on NTV, the mother of one said she was paid Sh5000 which was too little to maintain her lifestyle as a news anchor, “My life changed when I started reading news as an intern, I was told I couldn’t go to the club and drink a beer or dress a certain way. Things changed and I had to live a certain life and there was also pressure from fans.

Adding that her mum gave her a car to drive to work, “Back then being a news anchor was a really big deal. That’s why mum used to give me her car so that I could be seen driving. There was pressure when I was starting out but I got used to it. My salary as an intern at KTN was Sh5,000. Now what will the money do? So you still have to go back to your parents and ask for money for the fare and clothes.

Kyallo also had to wear oversize clothes to look older, “I started reading the news at the age of 22. Honestly, who will take you seriously when you are anchoring the news for educated people like professors. I used to wear big blouses to make me appear older and also hide a scar I have on my neck,” Betty said.
