OCTOPIZZO CRITICISES GOVERNMENT OVER FUEL PRICE HIKE
Hip-hop heavyweight Octopizzo has criticised the government’s handling of fuel prices, hours after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a price hike.
The rapper took to his platform to expressing frustration over what he called a pattern of broken promises. “Last week we were told fuel prices would remain stable, that there was enough supply. Today, prices are up again,” he said.
Octopizzo highlighted the growing distrust between ordinary citizens and regulators. “This disconnect is exactly what frustrates Kenyans. Promises on one hand, reality on the other. And it’s the ordinary citizen who pays the price, literally. Kenya ni capping kila corner.”
His outburst came just as EPRA announced a dramatic price change increase of up to Sh40 per litre, the authority released new rates on Wednesday, April 15. Hours after price increase, The EPRA has reduced the pump prices of petrol and diesel. In the new rates released on Wednesday, April 15 evening, the price of petrol has reduced by Sh9.37 and diesel by Sh10.21 to retail at Sh197.60 and Sh196.63, respectively, in Nairobi.
