‘TAKING PHOTOS OR VIDEOS ON TRAIN TRACKS IS ILLEGAL’ KENYA RAILWAYS WARNS CONTENT CREATORS
Kenya Railways (KR) has issued a public warning to content creators, photographers and videographers against producing any form of media along or near train tracks, citing illegal and life-threatening risks.
In an official notice, the state corporation said that railway tracks are classified as restricted areas. As such, any photography or videography conducted on or near them remains strictly illegal, regardless of intent whether for commercial shoots, social media content, or personal projects.
The warning comes amid a growing trend of creators using railway lines as dramatic backdrops for photoshoots and video productions, often overlooking the high-speed approach of trains and the absence of pedestrian-safe zones.
“No shot is worth your life. Railway tracks are not a photoshoot location, they’re restricted, unpredictable, and dangerous. Protect yourself, your crew, and your clients by keeping a safe distance. Let’s create responsibly and promote safety together.“
The notice further reiterated a clear directive to the creative industry, “Photographers: taking photos or videos on train tracks is illegal & dangerous. Keep your clients and yourself safe. Never photograph on or near railroad tracks.“
