Lenana School Closed Indefinitely After Night Unrest
Lenana School in Nairobi has been indefinitely shut down following unrest that broke out on Monday evening. Parents have been instructed to collect their children from the institution immediately.
On Tuesday, June 2, the school’s principal sent out messages directing parents to pick up their children starting at 8:00 a.m. The school emphasised that every student must leave the premises in the company of a parent, guardian, or an authorised representative.
According to the school’s Board of Management and administration, the decision came after students exhibited restlessness and disruption during evening preps on Monday, June 1. “Following the restlessness and disturbance experienced during preps in the school last night, the Board of Management and the school administration have resolved to temporarily release all students to allow for restoration of normalcy and a comprehensive assessment of the situation,” read part of the communication.
“You are therefore requested to pick your son from the school at 8:00 a.m. today. Kindly ensure that all students leave the school compound accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an authorised representative,” the notice added.
Authorities did not immediately reveal what triggered the unrest or offer additional details about the incident. However, the administration noted that the temporary closure would give school officials time to evaluate the situation and restore order before students resume their studies.
