Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru took to social media to celebrate the Ruracio and Ngurario ceremonies of her son, Ian, and his partner, Joanne.

In a statement shared on her official platforms, the Governor said, “My heart is filled with gratitude and joy as we celebrated the beautiful Ruracio and Ngurario ceremony of our son, Ian, and Joanne,” Waiguru wrote.

The Ruracio (dowry negotiation and payment ceremony) and Ngurario (the cutting of the sheep, symbolising the joining of two families) are traditional rites within the Kikuyu community, marking the transition of a couple toward marriage and the formal unity of their families. “As a mother, witnessing this important milestone in your journey together was a truly cherished blessing. Seeing the love, commitment, and happiness you share fills me with great pride and hope for the future that lies ahead for both of you.”

The Governor extended her blessings to the couple, offering a prayer for their future together. “Congratulations, Joanne and Ian. May your relationship continue to be anchored in faith, love, mutual respect, and understanding. May God guide your path, strengthen your bond, and bless you abundantly in the days ahead.” She signed off, “With love and prayers for a lifetime of happiness and togetherness, Mum.”

The post was met with congratulatory messages from several of Waiguru’s fellow leaders and friends, Susan Kihika, Cecily Mbarire, Veronica Maina, Gitari Mp, Leah Sankaire, Anne Muratha, Rachel Shebesh, Hon. Kagiri, Irene Njoki and Muteti Murimi among others.
