Why DJ Lyta Ditched Controversial Hot Grabba Mixes, Admits Content was Associated with Vices
DJ Lyta has finally broken his silence on why he walked away from the wildly popular Hot Grabba Mixes, revealing that the decision was intentional and driven by a desire to move away from content he now believes had a negative influence on his audience.
In a candid podcast interview, the celebrated deejay opened up about the real reasons behind ending the iconic mix series that once dominated Kenya’s entertainment scene. “I stopped Hot Grabba intentionally because it was associated with vices,” DJ Lyta confessed.
The DJ revealed that his decision came after a period of reflection, during which he sought feedback from fans and listeners about the impact the mixes had on their lives. The responses he received were troubling. “When I ask people how Hot Grabba affected them, some said I failed exams, the videos I used to play were dirty,” he shared.
The admission weighed heavily on the entertainer, who shared regret over the content he had put out during his younger years. “I saw it had very bad influence until I asked God to forgive me because I was young and I didn’t know what I was doing,” he said.
Hot Grabba Mixes gained massive popularity for their high-energy blend of music and vibrant visuals, became a cultural phenomenon in Kenya. However, the content often featured provocative imagery and themes that many criticised as inappropriate, particularly for younger audiences.
