FIDA Welcomes Conviction Okoth Obado in Sharon Otieno Murder Case

The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has welcomed today’s judgment by the High Court, which found former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two co-accused guilty of the murder of Sharon Otieno.

In a statement released by FIDA-Kenya Chairperson, Christine Kungu, the organisation described the ruling as a significant milestone in a case that has spanned nearly eight years and tested the resilience and patience of Sharon’s family as they pursued justice through the courts.

Throughout this period, the family has remained focused in their pursuit of accountability for the tragic loss of Sharon and her unborn child,“ Kungu stated.

FIDA-Kenya appreciated the diligence with which the Court handled the complex matter, the efforts of the prosecution in presenting its case, and the commitment of all parties to seeing the judicial process through despite the challenges encountered over the years.

As counsel watching brief for Sharon’s family, FIDA-Kenya acknowledged the courage demonstrated by the witnesses who came forward and the resolve of the family throughout the trial. “While no judgment can restore the life of Sharon and her unborn baby, today’s decision represents an important step toward accountability and reinforces public confidence that justice can be achieved through the rule of law,” the statement added.

FIDA-Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sharon’s family through the remaining legal processes, including sentencing and any subsequent proceedings that may arise.
