Sonko’s daughter Saumu Announces Candidacy for Nairobi Woman Rep 

Mike Sonko’s daughter Saumu Mbuvi has formally announced her candidacy for Nairobi Women Representative on the NEDP ticket, describing her bid as “a new chapter of service for Nairobi, for women, for the people.“

In her announcement, Mbuvi said she was making a deliberate decision to offer herself for public service. “Today, I make a deliberate decision to offer myself for public service as a candidate for Nairobi County Women Representative on the NEDP ticket,” she said.

She disclosed that her motivation for seeking office is rooted in responsibility. “I am not stepping forward because leadership is a title. I am stepping forward because leadership is a responsibility, a covenant with the people, and an opportunity to turn lived realities into meaningful action,” she stated.

Mbuvi noted that while Nairobi holds extraordinary potential, many of its residents continue to face challenges. “Our women need economic opportunities. Our young people need pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, skills and innovation. Our vulnerable families need stronger social protection. Our communities need leaders who listen, understand the data, engage honestly and remain accountable after the cameras are gone,” she said.

Outlining her vision, she said she is committed to contributing to a Nairobi where representation produces tangible outcomes. “My vision is to contribute to a Nairobi where representation translates into results. A Nairobi where women are not merely spoken about, but economically empowered. A Nairobi where young people are not treated simply as voters, but as partners in building the future,” she said.

She concluded her announcement with a call to action for the city’s residents. “Nairobi, this is our moment to reimagine representation.“
