AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER LIKARION WAINAINA CELEBRATES KENYAN ACTORS

By  |

Celebrated director Likarion Wainaina, took to social media and penned a love letter to Kenyan actors.

In the letter, Likarion lauded actors for their fantastic performances, “Dear Kenyan actor, this is a love letter to you. Our industry hasn’t been built on education, it’s been built by talent and hard work. I believe around 90% of our actors haven’t received any proper training.

I am not referring to workshops, just proper drama schools, that offer entire courses on the entire spectrum of performance. And yet our industry is growing everyday with fantastic performances put up for our audiences. So as you sit there just know, you’ve achieved a lot.”

He encouraged upcoming actors to be disciplined and one day they will make it, “No training, little pay, mad hours, mental health strain, negative criticism on social media and yet you go in front of the camera or get up on stage and you give it your all, it’s not easy but you did it so cut yourself some slack and celebrate what you have achieved.

So to the veteran actors who grace our screens to the newbie who is just trying out if you manage to get any performance out there just know you have done what most haven’t, all through sheer talent, sweat and discipline and one day you will be celebrated for that achievement and it starts here with me.”
