SAUTI SOL CANCELS THEIR SOLD OUT CONCERT HOURS BEFORE THE SHOW AND PROMISE TO REFUND TICKETS

By  |

Kenyan band Sauti Sol have cancelled their much-anticipated concert dubbed Sol Saturday.  The event was set to take place today December 19 at the Waterfront, Ngong Racecource.

Band member Polycarp says they were letdown by the event organizers and the space was not conducive to hold 3000 people, “Doing the right this is hard, but has to done. Just for clarity, we were not the organizers of this show. We were all just as excited as you were to finally perform to the public for the first time this year.

But then as soon as we got to the venue yesterday for soundcheck that’s when setup was ready, we knew it would not work as we had envisioned it. We tried our best to mitigate the situation, offering solutions and trying our best to make it work and give you an amazing experience that you all so much deserve, but we couldn’t come to an agreement with the organizers.

We are not the kind to be ok with mediocrity for our own local artists yet when an artist comes from outside it’s a different story. That needs to end. We can do better. That aside, we only found out yesterday that 3000 tickets were sold.

That space was not conducive given the current pandemic to safely hold 3000 people. We wouldn’t have irresponsibly allowed to have this massive crowd without proper Covid protocols. Hence our decision. Nothing but love to you all.”

In their press statement, the group promised to refund their fans ticket money, “To our fans we regret to inform you that we shall not be performing at today’s scheduled “Sol Saturday” event. Although we deeply desire to give you a marvelous show, we cannot in good conscience assure your health and safety which is our highest priority.

We were recently made aware that the event size doesn’t comply with kenyan covid-19 protocols and regulations. Together with the promoters Tukutane Entertainment Limited and Masshouse Group Limited, we tried hard to mitigate the situation, however we could not come to an agreement on the best way forward.

With the recent uptick in confirmed infections and deaths around the world we cannot in good conscience recklessly endanger your well being. We shall be refunding the promoters, Tukutane Entertainment Limited and Masshouse Group Limited the full performance fees duly paid to us without delay so that they can provide swift refunds to you.

It is disheartening and unfortunate, but necessary and we hope to appear on stage again as soon as we can do so safely and responsibly. stay safe.”
