After being introduced to his first drink by a friend, former Tahidi High actor Joseph Kinuthia popularly known as Omosh says he is now sober after losing two decades of his life to alcohol.

The father of five sat down with Radio Jambo and talked about his journey to recovery, “I started drinking because of stress, the small money I earned I would drink. But later I realized I was destroying my body; I went to rehab for three months. I made the decision myself but my sister also wanted to help so when she asked I agreed.

I had tried to stop drinking, I would stay sober for a week or a month but when I tasted alcohol again, I would drink for three months straight. Alcohol addiction is slow, my friend introduced me to drinking. We had gone for a job, and after, he bought drinks and told me to try, I loved it, two bottles later I was tipsy. Whenever we worked, he would tell me we buy a drink and meat, and slowly by slowly I became an addict.

Many addicts don’t know they are one and it is hard to stop drinking, many want to stop but they can’t. Alcohol destroyed my family and children’s life. They stayed home because of lack of school fees, I drunk the money.

I used to drink a lot, in the morning I would find myself in the club and go to work, while waiting for my next scene I would drink and stay away from the director. Immediately after shoot the first place I would go is the club.”

The 48-year-old actor also talked about his two wives, “I have two wives, my first wife sells shirts, she lives in her own house and I visit her sometimes. While I stay with my second wife, she also does the same job.”

Omosh is now three years sober.
