By  |

Celebrated Musician Suzanna Owiyo has narrated her experience after spending a night in a police cell.

According to Owiyo, she was arrested for over speeding in Naivasha while on her way to Kisumu. “I will never forget the month of March 28th 2014, at around 8am. Nilionja cell ya Naivasha.. for some hours before being arraigned in court.  I was arrested for speeding. When I got into the female cell, I found a woman who had been arrested in the wee hours of the morning.”

Adding, “We quickly connected. So I asked her why she got arrested. She told me she was caught selling illicit brew. She seemed drunk to me but that aside.

I requested her to take a full pic of me which she obliged but the lady couldn’t problem focus.. too much changaa in her head. She kept saying, “Wewe wacha nikupige picha vizuri sasa.. focus.” Apparently the photos she took were all blurry but I kept the best which is among the pics I have shared.”

The following day, Owiyo was charged and paid a fine before being released, “While in the cell, I heard a commotion coming from outside.. and decided to move back in a corner. These were male offenders who were being taken to court that morning. As they passed through the female cell, they kept peeping and some whispering, “Na aka ni karembo”

I stayed put in my corner till they vanished. I wasn’t worried because I knew I would come out soon due to the nature of my offense. I got charged, paid the fine and proceeded with my journey to Kisumu. One thing that kept bothering me was the manner in which the cell was kept. Very dirty! Maybe things have changed now!”
