Musician Suzanna Owiyo Mourns the Passing of Her Brother

Award-winning Kenyan musician Suzanna Owiyo is in mourning following the death of her elder brother.

The celebrated artist, known for her fusion of traditional Luo rhythms with contemporary sounds, took to social media to share the heartbreaking news, “No matter how much time passes, it’s still hard to accept that you’re no longer here,” Owiyo wrote in an emotional tribute. “Your memory will forever live in my heart. I will always treasure you, Big Brother.“

The musician did not disclose the circumstances surrounding his passing. The loss comes just a few years after Owiyo mourned the passing of both her mother in August 2023 and her father in January 2021 . The back-to-back losses have made this period particularly challenging for the artist, who has previously described her mother as the pillar of strength for their family.
