ACTRESS BRENDA MWAI LAUNCHES B-SCOPE FILMS: A DIRECTORY CONNECTING AFRICAN ACTORS TO GLOBAL CASTING OPPORTUNITIES

Kenyan actor and media personality Brenda Mwai has announced the launch of B-Scope Films, an actors’ directory designed to bridge the gap between African talent and international casting opportunities across the continent and beyond.

With global productions increasingly turning their attention to Africa, Mwai identified a need for a centralised, verified platform that elevates African actors from obscurity to global visibility.

When asked what inspired the directory, Mwai responded, “It’s undeniable that Africa has world-class talent. What’s been missing is access and visibility. As international productions continue turning their attention toward the continent, the big question becomes: how do we make sure African actors are not just seen, but discovered, verified, and cast? B-Scope is designed to connect African talent to opportunities both across the continent and on the global stage.”

Mwai confirmed that B-Scope Films is currently in its conceptual stages, with Kenya serving as the launchpad for a much larger ambition. “B-Scope Films is still in its conceptual stages. We’re starting right here in Kenya, with the goal of expanding across the entire continent, building a truly pan-African casting ecosystem,” she said.

The timing of the launch coincides with major investments in African original content by platforms such as Netflix. However, Mwai noted that casting infrastructure has not kept pace with production demand. “Major platforms like Netflix are investing heavily in African originals, but the casting infrastructure hasn’t fully caught up yet. B-Scope Directory is here to bridge that gap, giving African actors a direct pathway into international casting rooms and global productions.”

According to Mwai, the initial response to the directory has been overwhelmingly positive. “The response so far has been incredibly positive and affirming. It’s clear there’s a huge hunger for a platform that gives raw and seasoned African talent visibility beyond borders. Right now, I’m still building, learning, exploring sponsorship and investment opportunities, and having conversations with experienced industry leaders to shape B-Scope into something truly impactful.”

She stated that platform is designed to level the playing field for African actors, regardless of their location or level of experience. “B-Scope Films is about leveling the playing field. It’s a space where a Yoruba-speaking lead actor in Lagos and a Kenyan character actor can stand shoulder to shoulder with talent in London or LA, searchable, verified, and just one click away from casting directors.

She also highlighted an artificial intelligence feature that sets the directory apart from traditional casting platforms. “What makes it even more exciting is the AI casting-match feature. A director simply describes the role they’re looking for, and within seconds, the most suitable profiles appear, complete with verified reels and portfolios.”

Mwai ended with a message of encouragement for actors across the continent. “To every aspiring and seasoned actor, this is your moment. Join the B-Scope movement, and let’s show the world the depth, diversity, and brilliance of African talent.” Onboarding of actors and casting directors is currently ongoing.
