Double Gold Medalist Kevin Kiarie Finally Departs for 10-Day Training in China
Kenyan roller skating champion Kevin Kiarie has finally departed for Chengdu, China, to participate in a 10-day intensive training camp, just one week after revealing that a lack of funds had threatened to derail his journey.
Kiarie left Nairobi on May 27,2026, traveling via Doha en route to Sichuan, Chengdu, where he will attend the 2026 Sichuan High-T International Inline Freestyle Competition Exchange Programme. The event, scheduled to run from May 21 to June 3, 2026, is designed to provide advanced technical training and cultural exchange alongside some of the world’s top skaters.
“Today I leave for Sichuan, Chengdu, China through Doha for an Intensive 10 Days Training Camp. Thank you all for this far!” Said Kiarie.
The champion’s trip was nearly canceled. Just a week ago, Kiarie shared his frustration about the financial obstacles preventing his travel. “Today I miss out on my travel to China because of lack of funds. For now, I remain determined in my training,” he had said at the time. However, following a last-minute surge of support, the African champion secured the necessary resources to make the journey.
Kiarie arrives in China on the heels of a spectacular performance at the African Skating Championship in Cairo, Egypt, where he clinched double gold. “2026 started off strong. Two events are down, five to go! Same spirit, same energy! Thank you all for the love and support! I am always motivated! Forward,” Kiarie added.
Following his victories in Cairo, Kiarie revealed his ambition to use the China training camp as a critical stepping stone toward the World Skate Games in Asunción, Paraguay. “Currently getting ready because I am certain that the best is ahead of us,” he said at the time.
