Skater Kevin Kiarie Appeals for Financial Help to Represent Kenya at 2026 World Skate Games 

Kenyan roller skater Kevin Kiarie has issued an urgent appeal for financial assistance to represent the country at the 2026 World Skate Games, set to take place in Paraguay later this year.

Despite an impressive run of international victories including double gold at the African Championships and a win at the Africa Skate Games in Egypt, Kiarie says he is struggling to secure the funds needed to compete on the world stage.

“I have been representing Kenya with immense pride over the past 10 months in various international competitions,” Kiarie said. “However, the financial challenges have been overwhelming. I even self-sponsored my trip to Egypt, and my recent participation in China cost me over 750,000 Kenya shillings bought on the day of travel due to last-minute arrangements.“

Kiarie expressed disappointment that his achievements in Benin have yet to receive official recognition from Kenyan authorities, despite his gold-medal performance. 

He also revealed that he has missed three international events since his China trip due to a lack of funding, even after submitting budgets to the Ministry of Sports.

Now, with the World Skate Games approaching, Kiarie fears he may miss yet another opportunity to fly Kenya’s flag on the global stage.

The skater has provided a detailed breakdown of his financial needs. Airfare to Paraguay is estimated at Ksh 450,000, though he notes that ticket prices fluctuate and the final cost will depend on when he purchases them. Accommodation for six days is projected to cost Ksh 98,000, while federation event fees will require an additional Ksh 40,000. In total, he needs Ksh 588,000 to cover his travel and participation expenses. So far, he has managed to raise Ksh 250,000, leaving a deficit of Ksh 388,000 that he is urgently appealing to the public and potential sponsors to help bridge.

“I’m asking Kenyans with humility and respect to help me raise this amount,” Kiarie added. “I am confident that if I make it to Paraguay, I will make the nation proud with my performance. This is not just my dream, it is our moment to shine together.” He has called on well-wishers to come on board and support his campaign.
