Joe Muchiri Speaks Out in Social Media Rant on How Fake Alcohol Affects All Kenyans

Social user Joe Muchiri has gone online to share his feelings about fake alcohol in Kenya. He says the problem is bigger than most people think. According to Muchiri, counterfeit drinks are not only making people sick and killing them, they are also costing the country a lot of money.

Muchiri said alcohol is heavily taxed in Kenya because it is a luxury item. But when people sell fake alcohol, they do not pay any taxes. “Let me break it down in a simple way,” Muchiri said. “If there was no fake alcohol in the country, do you know how much more tax the government would get? A lot of money.“

He explained that the government is losing billions of shillings because counterfeiters avoid paying duties. He said even if you do not drink alcohol, you are still affected. “Everybody knows someone who drinks alcohol,” he said. “One day they may not be so lucky. They may get very sick. They may even die. If you don’t care, what happens when they die or get sick? You have to contribute money for the burial or hospital bill. It affects everyone.”

Muchiri called out government officials and police officers who allow fake alcohol to enter the country. “Regular Kenyans cannot bring fake alcohol into the country,” he said. “We cannot make it and package it. You need government blessings, the county and the police. They know all these things.”

He explained how the system works. Fake alcohol comes from countries like Dubai and China. It arrives at the airport or the port. It has to go through customs. Someone has to be paid to let it in. “The container is parked and distributed in Kenyan clubs with fake KRA and KBS stickers,” Muchiri said.

He then directed a message to corrupt officials. “You are killing your own friends, relatives, and Kenyans,” he said. “You are a murderer.” Muchiri called on the government to take action. “This thing is bad,” he said. “The government needs to be serious.“
