‘I Was Bullied by Teachers’ Singer Nikita Kering Reveals

Award-winning Kenyan singer and songwriter Nikita Kering has opened up about the bullying she endured during her school years, revealing that the experience affected her confidence and her willingness to share her content publicly.

Speaking in an interview, Kering disclosed that she was bullied not only by fellow students but also by teachers who disapproved of her artistic pursuits. She now recognises that the hostility she faced was because of jealousy.

“I was bullied so much, even by the teachers. They didn’t really like what I was doing, and now is when I actually came to realise why, it was jealousy,” Kering said. “At that time, I generally thought there was something wrong with me, so I was really bullied for what I was doing.”

The singer explained that her confidence was often misinterpreted and made her a target. “People didn’t like my confidence. They didn’t, because I was so shamelessly confident,” she stated. “I think that was something that either would intimidate people or just they would think I was a busybody. Because when there’s something that’s coming, I’m the first volunteer for artistic projects. I’m always the one who is singing, so maybe that also made people feel bad about themselves.”

Kering revealed that the experience took a toll on her willingness to share her work with the world. “That bullying made me hide what I was doing a lot. After high school, I never wanted to post, never wanted to. In fact, even until today, the concept of content creation is just one thing that I’ve had to really force myself to get into.”
