Singer Nina Ogot Wins Best African Pop Award at InterContinental Music Awards
Kenyan Afro-fusion musician Nina Ogot has been named the winner of the Best African Pop Award at the 2026 InterContinental Music Awards.
The prestigious honour was awarded for her soulful single, Zawadi, marking an achievement for the singer-songwriter on the global stage. The InterContinental Music Awards, based in Los Angeles, are recognised for celebrating musical excellence across the globe. This year’s edition featured a distinguished international jury composed of Grammy Award winners, Grammy voting members, renowned music producers and composers, orchestra conductors, and music entrepreneurs.
“I am honoured to accept the InterContinental Music Awards as the Best African Pop Award 2026!!!!! The golden prize goes to my song ZAWADI!!!” said Nina. “Let me enjoy this moment first, I will post all the other yummy details soon!!!”
Zawadi, which translates to “gift” in Swahili, is a live recording that captures the vibrant, danceable Kenyan vibes that have become a hallmark of Ogot’s performances . The track showcases her unique ability to blend traditional Kenyan influences with contemporary urban sounds, a style she has cultivated over a career spanning more than a decade .
Born and bred in Nairobi,Ogot is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose compositions reflect her Luo origins and the diverse cultural tapestry of Kenya . She infuses Western and modern influences into her music, creating a contemporary sound that represents modern Kenya .
