Kitale Film Week 2027 Edition Pushed To February 2028

Kitale Film Week has confirmed that its fifth edition, initially scheduled for February 2027, will now be held in February 2028.

“This was not an easy choice to make. As a self-funded film festival dedicated to bringing audiences meaningful, bold and top-quality cinematic experiences, we feel it is essential to equip our fifth edition with the time, support and partnerships it requires.” Said Founder and Festival Director Peter Pages Bwire.

Since its founding in 2022 and its debut edition in 2023, Kitale Film Week has developed into a vital space for film, culture and dialogue in Western Kenya. Through the years, it has hosted filmmakers and viewers, highlighted African narratives, opened doors for rising talent, brought films into schools and local communities, and kept proving that excellent cinema can flourish outside Kenya’s usual creative hubs.

“The decision to postpone the 2027 edition reflects the realities of resourcing an ambitious festival sustainably. Rather than compromise on the experience, quality and impact that our audiences, filmmakers, partners and stakeholders have come to associate with Kitale Film Week, we have chosen to take the time

needed to build towards a stronger fifth edition. We are not stepping away. We are building towards our return.” Bwire added.

The team is already laying the groundwork for the next phase of Kitale Film Week deepening partnerships, creating fresh opportunities and building the framework for an unforgettable fifth edition in February 2028.
