Tiktoker Gurleen Kaur Explains Why Indians Do Not Practice Circumcision

Popular TikToker Gurleen Kaur has sparked an enlightening conversation online after explaining why Indians with the exception of Indian Muslims do not practice circumcision, the physical initiation a boy passes through to get to manhood.

In her widely shared video, Kaur noted that Hindus and Kalasingas (Sikhs) do not practise this tradition, and broke down the religious and cultural reasons behind it.

In Hinduism, she explained, there is a concept known as “Purna,” which means completeness. This means that when you are born, you are born complete, and no physical alteration is supposed to be done except in cases of medical emergency.

Among Sikhs, there is a practice called “Sabot Soorat,” which means accepting the body that God gave you. This principle discourages altering the body through piercings, tattoos, or other modifications.

Kaur also stated that at the end of the day, every religion has its own practices and traditions, and it is important to understand and respect them.
