Newsmax Host Rob Finnerty to Apologise On-Air After Kenyans Reject Social Media Statement
Newsmax TV host Rob Finnerty will deliver a formal on-air apology to the people of Kenya following backlash over comments he made comparing New York City to Nairobi.
The announcement comes after Finnerty issued a written statement on October 13 acknowledging that he had misspoken during his October 9 segment, in which he drew a comparison between the state of certain American cities and Nairobi while discussing immigration and sanctuary city policies.
“I want to offer an apology to the people of Nairobi, Kenya,” Finnerty said in his statement. “The passion you have for your city and homeland is amazing. We all make mistakes. I misspoke, and I am sorry to anyone I have offended.”
During the October 9 broadcast, Finnerty claimed that some American cities were beginning to resemble Nairobi more than New York City, citing immigration and sanctuary city policies. He also referenced New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Ugandan birthplace while questioning the city’s changing character.
The remarks triggered a strong reaction from Kenyans online, many of whom rejected the written apology as insufficient and demanded a public, on-air acknowledgment.
Finnerty has since confirmed he will address the matter directly. “Tonight, I will address this on the air,” Finnerty said.
