President Ruto and First Lady Attend WNBA Game to Support Madina Okot

President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto attended a WNBA regular-season game between the New York Liberty and the Atlanta Dream at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday night to show support for Kenyan basketball player Madina Okot.

President Ruto, who is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, took time out to attend the game and sat courtside. He was joined by the First Lady, NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, and representatives from NBA Africa. 

After the game, President Ruto and the First Lady posed for photos with Okot. The President later shared a selfie from the game on social media, writing that he had attended the WNBA match between the New York Liberty and the Atlanta Dream in Brooklyn “to support Kenyan-born star Madina Okot.“

Speaking to the Associated Press after the game, Okot said, “I’m grateful he came. I’m the only Kenyan here, and it says a lot about his support for sports back home. I hope this opens doors for other girls. I’m just lucky to have his support.”
