JACKIE CHANDIRU SHARES HER STRUGGLE WITH OPIOID ADDICTION

By  |

Ugandan singer Jackie Chandiru says she was addicted to painkillers and not other drugs like weed, cocaine and heroin as many speculated.

Chandiru said she started using Pethidine after she injured her back but failed to see the destructive power of the painkiller until it was too late, “No person wakes up in the morning and wants to be an addict, it’s not a choice.

Mine started as a health problem although I was warned before about that specific drug. It’s an addictive painkiller.

I had a back injury and it was a 50/50 chance if I went for surgery, I would come out successful. The shortcut for me while still thinking about the surgery was drugs, that when I started using.

Every time I was doing my tours, I was working six days a week I was always using pethidine. This drug became part of me, by the time the addiction had grown I was injecting myself over 20 times per day.”

Adding, “I was not addicted to any other drugs.”
