KENYAN FILM POACHER TO AIR ON NETFLIX

Poacher, an award-winning film will be the first Kenyan movie to air on Netflix.

Directed by Tom Whitworth and starring the likes of Brian Ogola and Maina Olwenya, the movie tells the story of illegal ivory trade in Kenya. In the movie, a desperate farmer runs into trouble after stealing a stash of blood ivory from a gang of international terrorists.

The movie was filmed over six days at the Tsavo West National Park in 2018 involving about 30 crew members. The 29-minute long film won an award for the Best Short Film at the 8th Kalasha TV & Film Awards in 2018 and additionally got a nomination for Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Director of Photography, Best Supporting Actor in a Film and Best Actor in a Film at the Kalasha Awards.

Brian Ogola talked of how excited he was for the film going to Netflix saying, “Can’t believe I kept this off social media for weeks. But I’m finally happy to share the good news. Poacher will be available on Netflix from September 30th. It’s been 2 years since we made this film and it feels so good to see it soar to these heights. Congratulations to the entire team.”

The British director, Tom Whitworth stated, “It’s been a 4-year journey and we are enormously proud to announce the launch of ‘Poacher’, our short award-winning Kenyan crime thriller, exclusively available on Netflix from 30th September.”
