OMMY DIMPOZ CANCER SCARE THAT ALMOST COST HIM SH3.1 MILLION

By  |

Tanzanian musician Ommy Dimpoz was sick throughout 2018 and he underwent two major surgeries in South Africa and Germany. On his birthday, the musician took to social media to talk about his treatment journey, stating at one point he was told there was a possibility it could be lung cancer,

I thank God for letting me see September 13 again, it’s my birthday. But there was something that happened to me last year I want to tell you. It happened when I was undergoing treatment after being operated twice.  The first one in South Africa and the second one in Germany and with God’s grace I was health again and I went back to my normal activities.

I even released a song Ni Wewe among others, but I needed return to Germany for the second checkup. When I got there, I did them and the results were good, thought there was one which was not ready but the doctors released me to go back home and said they will email the remaining results.”

Ommy packed his back and was ready to go back to Tanzania only to be called back by the doctors, “I was happy and I prepared myself to go back home, but I was also going to Saudia Arabia for Umra ‘a Muslim worship held in Mecca’. I got to the airport, an hour before boarding I received a call from my doctor who told me not to board that it was an emergency and I needed to go back.

I canceled the tickets, got taxi and return to the hospital, the doctor me the remaining result was out and my lungs were not good so I have stay for one month because it may be cancer but they were not sure. They told I had to undergo a small operation so they can get a small sample out of my lungs to test and know where the problem is (biopsy) and I need to stay there for two weeks and the charge was Sh3.1 million (25,000 euros).”

He could not afford the operation and suggested to the doctors to go home but they did not allow him, “I was very surprised to hear those costs and I told my doctor it was a lot of money because I only went for check-ups and I didn’t know I would need to stay, even though I wanted to know what was the problem. They asked me what I was going to do and I told them I have to go back to Africa I make plans then I would come back. The said they couldn’t allow me to leave because it might be a big problem and I needed to know.

They told me to wait for a few minutes out of the office, after a while they called me and said they have discussed with the team and decided to give me a free treatment. I was surprised and I didn’t believe because I did not have a health insurance and it is so hard to be treated for free. The next day I did the operation and I was admitted for more than a week as I wait for results.”

Ommy was also in communication with Kenyan football star Victor Wanyama who offered him a ticket to one of his matches, “Every time I was checking on Google about lung cancer and its symptoms. One day, 10 doctors came to give me the results, I was so afraid I thought I had it but fortunately I was told it was not cancer but a bacteria  and they give me drugs to use, I knelt down and gave thanks to God and I was allowed to come back to Africa.

While I was planning to come back I received a call from @victorwanyama who I was talking to and was checking up on me, he told me if the results were good, I go should go to Madrid to watch his UEFA game final.

Tottenham was playing against Liverpool in pool D, I thought about it and took one-hour flight to Madrid, when I got there his family received me and we went to the pitch. There are many fans who did not have a tickets, a white guy offered to buy my ticket for Sh1.3 million (10,000 pounds).

I thought about it a lot but I decided to go and watch the game, bad luck @victorwanyama team lost the game. When I told him, I refused to sell the ticket, he laughed at me and called me fala 🤣🤣 Happy birthday to me.”
