US-based Kenyan singer Benson Ongachi, alias Benachi Mwanake has opened up on moving to the United States and how he met his wife

Speaking in an interview, the singer said that he always had a desire to live in the US. “I desired to go to the United States. There’s a time Alemba and DJ Mo went to the States and I also grew the desire to travel there and I also had a friend living in Texas who often told me that life abroad was good,” he said.

Following the release of his hit song Mwanake, Benachi got an opportunity to travel to the US to perform the song for Kenyans leaving in the US. He said that every time he visited different states he loved them increasing his desire to live in the US.

After some time a woman, named Maggy invited invited me to the States to do a tour and do the Talanta Awards. So that’s where my journey started. I did the tour and on every state I visited I loved it, the more I did the tour the more I loved the place,” said Benachi.

The father of two later consulted his host on how he could get the US citizenship. Benachi was given options including looking for a partner. “I had to find out how I can stay there. I consulted Maggy who gave many options but I went with one. I opted to look for a love partner. I fasted and prayed to God and asked for a woman,” he said.

On meeting his wife he added, “I later went to a place called Delaware, a close friend invited me to their church in Philadelphia to perform. After performing a random woman approached me and asked me to help her roll the carpet and take some water glasses to the church’s kitchen. Then I helped her to vacuum the church and we started talking.”

During the time, Benachi was weighing options on whether to stay in the US or travel back to Kenya. “I was in a dilemma on whether to return back home or stay in the United States for good. I almost got into depression because I was thinking about a lot of things. I had a lot of things to decide on and it had hugely affected me mentally,” he said.

Later on, Benachi started dating his wife resulting to a wedding after a year of dating, earning him a citizenship. “We dated fo a whole year while still deciding and we finally agreed to have a real wedding and we got blessings fr both our parents and we did a real wedding starting off a real marriage,” said the singer.

On what he misses the most about Kenya, the singer stated; “I miss the social life, here is on another level, on the other side I don’t think it can match. I miss hanging out with people because in America people are busy and they mind their own business. I also miss the food.”
