‘ANGELA CHIBALONZA WAS MY PRAYER PARTNER’ SAYS SELINA ACTOR ABEL AMUNGA

Actor and voice coach Abel Amunga opened up on his relationship with late gospel singer Angela Chibalonza. Speaking in an interview with Buzz Central, the actor said he met Chibalonza while working with veteran singer Mary Atieno as her vocal coach.

Following their meeting, Amunga said they developed a friendship with Chibalonza and they became prayer partners, “I have worked with the late Angela Chibalonza. She was really humble and the reason why she started working with me is because she realised I was working with Mary Atieno. She came to Kenya specifically to look for Mary Atieno who was her idol, I met her at Mushroom Studio in Madaraka, she was sleeping on a couch and just idling around.

She told me she wished to record one day, I asked her to sing and all the songs she sang were for Mary Atieno and I told her, ‘Do you know I’m the one training Mary Atieno?’ and that’s how we become tight with Angela. We became prayer partners and I was her music confidant and every single song she recorded I was part of, I looked for her background singers (BGVs) and producers for her until she passed away,” said Amunga.  

The proud father of one also explained why he does not endorse alcoholic products, “I can only act that I’m drinking an alcoholic product because it is just acting. I don’t drink, I’ve never had alcohol, I just act. But now endorsing a product I cannot do that, so many young men will go and consume that product just because I have endorsed it,” he said.
