RACHEL SHEBESH WEDS IN GLAMOROUS TRADITIONAL WEDDING

By  |

Youth and Gender Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh and her husband Frank Shebesh held their traditional wedding marking her completion of marriage rites.

Through her social media pages, the politician disclosed that they held the traditional ceremony on Saturday, November 30 at her parent’s home. “My husband Frank and I held our traditional wedding (Gurario) ceremony on Saturday 30th October, 2021 to mark the completion of marriage rites as per our culture,” she wrote.

Shebesh thanked her family and friends including CS Margaret Kobia who made the event a success. “I would like to thank my family, friends and relatives for your support and presence that made the colourful event successful. A special mention to my Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Margaret Kobia, PhD, MGH for finding time to attend despite her busy schedule,” she added.

The ceremony celebrates the completion of dowry payments to make her an upstanding woman in society. The rite is also recognised as the proper Kikuyu wedding but instead of the cakes which dominate modern European weddings, the event involves the bride cutting a piece of meat from a lamb’s shoulder known as Gutinia Kiande.

Speaking in a past interview, Shebesh said she was fully married in the Luhya community but her husband acknowledges her Kikuyu background hence the holding of the ceremony. “I have been married for 24 years, I have children and grandchildren, and I am 100 per cent married in the Abaluhya community, but my husband appreciates my background and appreciates my family, that is why we are holding this event,” she said.
