SINGER HENRIE MUTUKU ON WHY SHE QUIT GOSPEL MUSIC

By  |

Gospel singer Evelyn Maina popularly known as Henrie Mutuku has disclosed the reason why she left the music industry.

According to the singer, when she became popular the gatekeepers of the industry tried to sabotage her career, “I got to the top and I found it has its owners. The gatekeepers, they entertain christianity but when you step on their toes they have a way of quieting you. I decided they were too powerful for me and went back to church.

Henrie further stated they would schedule her sound checks when she was church time, “For concerts they didn’t want me to sing but they didn’t want to tell me upfront. They would schedule sound checks on Sunday morning when I had to be in church. They would say you are not turning for sound checks so it is done. I refused to be those musicians who are never in church but are always performing.  I would also release new music but it would never be played.”

Mutuku also revealed she has been married for almost a decade, “He is fighting the fight of the faith being a pastor. I got into gospel music but when I couldn’t do it I chose to support him. We have been married since 2014.”
