The Atlanta Dream chose South Carolina center Madina Okot during the first round of the 2026 WNBA Draft. Okot, who played only one season with the Gamecocks, was selected 13th overall after averaging 12.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game in the 2025–26 season.

Okot’s selection by the Dream highlights her quick rise in basketball, a sport she took up only a few years ago. Before joining South Carolina, Okot spent the 2024–25 season at Mississippi State, where she put up 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Earlier, the Kenya native played collegiate basketball in her home country for two seasons. During her single year with the Gamecocks, Okot added a three-point shot to her skillset, hitting 44.8% from beyond the arc.

Early in her basketball journey, Madina made brave decisions not just to pursue the sport, but to build a better life for herself. Her time with us in Columbia was brief, but we’re thankful to have been part of her story. She made our team and our game better,” said Dawn Staley, Head Coach, University of South Carolina.

Okot will now join the Atlanta Dream roster and begin getting ready for her first season as a professional in the WNBA.
