ZANZIBAR AUTHORITIES RULE AMERICAN INFLUENCER ASHLEE JENAE’S DEATH A SUICIDE
Authorities in Zanzibar have ruled that a 31-year-old American social media influencer from Miami died by suicide. The content creator, Ashly Robinson known online as Ashlee Jenae was on vacation in Tanzania at the time of her death. She was 31.
In an Instagram statement posted on April 12, several of Robinson’s relatives announced her passing. They explained that Robinson and her fiancé, Joe McCann, had been traveling in Zanzibar when she was discovered unconscious in her villa. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed her death a few hours later.
According to a police statement obtained by the local outlet, investigators believe Robinson took her own life. Police also reported that after a disagreement between Robinson and McCann, hotel staff decided to move the couple into separate rooms.

When questioned about McCann, Police Commander Benedict Mapujira of North Unguja told Mwananchi that authorities did not plan to arrest or charge him. He has not been accused of any misconduct.
In the days leading up to her death, Robinson posted photos and videos from her trip, including clips of her feeding local animals and celebrating her 31st birthday with a sign made of rose petals. She wrote in one Instagram caption, “Chapter 31 and I’m exactly where I need to be.” According to her family and an Instagram video from April 3, McCann had proposed to her during a safari.
“One moment she was celebrating love and life in truly Ashly fashion, and the next, she was gone,” the family’s statement read. “The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family.”
The family also noted that an investigation into Robinson’s death remains active and that they are cooperating with local authorities in Zanzibar.
