Tanzania has finalised an agreement to host the 74th Miss World pageant in 2027. The event is anticipated to bring over 20,000 foreign visitors and reach a global television audience exceeding two billion people.

The competition will mark the return of theMiss World pageant to African soil after an absence of over25 years. The last time the event was held on the continent was in 2001, when South Africa played host.

Minister of Information, Culture, and Sports, Paul Makonda, attended the signing ceremony and described the occasion as a breakthrough that will place Tanzania in the international spotlight.

According to him, securing the hosting rights puts Tanzania in an exclusive group of nations. It becomes only the second African country after South Africa to organise this prestigious event, and the first in East and Central Africa to do so.

Makonda noted that this achievement is the result of sustained efforts to enhance Tanzania’s global reputation. He praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for championing initiatives that promote the country’s visibility, unity, and inclusive development. “This goes beyond a simple beauty contest,” Makonda remarked. “It offers a powerful opportunity to present Tanzania’s tourism, investment climate, cultural richness, and artistic talent to an international audience.”

The minister also indicated that over 130 nations are expected to take part, with national broadcasters airing the event live, bringing Tanzania into households worldwide. He predicted that such exposure would strengthen key industries, including tourism, agriculture, mining, and creative arts.

Organisers are preparing for at least 20,000 international guests over the month-long celebration, which will include a variety of events such as an official welcome ceremony, a welcome dinner, talent finals, charitable activities, fashion showcases, and the final crowning event.
