‘I BORROWED LOANS’ BABU OWINO DISCLOSES SH70 MILLION DJ EVOLVE MEDICAL BILL, SH500,000 MONTHLY EXPENSE
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has broken his silence on the ongoing conversation surrounding the shooting incident involving DJ Evolve, disclosing that he has spent approximately KSh70 million on the victim’s medical care and upkeep.
In a candid statement, the MP also revealed that his monthly expenditure on DJ Evolve currently stands at around KSh500,000, funds he has sourced through bank loans and contributions from his personal circle. “It was quite unfortunate. I took responsibility as a leader,” Babu Owino said.
The MP addressed critics who have argued that he should be in prison for his role in the incident, “People are saying that in a working state, Babu should be in jail. I agree I should be in jail. I agree,” he stated. “But there are different types of justice. There’s retributive justice that says punish. Then there’s restorative justice that tries to restore to its original state. That is also a form of justice.”
He took issue with Miguna Miguna who, in his view, should understand these legal and philosophical distinctions. “He ought to know better the types of justice that we have,” Owino added.
The MP detailed the extent of his financial commitment saying that he has continued to take responsibility long after the incident made headlines. “I’ve been taking care of medical bills up to now. I’ve taken loans from banks, from my circle. I have spent close to around KSh70 million on DJ Evolve. The amount of money that we spend per month on DJ Evolve is close to around KSh500,000,” he disclosed.
Contrary to some public assumptions, Babu insisted that DJ Evolve is making significant progress. “DJ Evolve is talking… He’s eating. He’s healed. The only thing remaining for DJ Evolve is to go through the physiotherapy process so that he can walk. But he’s normal.“
The MP also used the opportunity to share how the incident fundamentally changed his life, leading him to abandon substance abuse entirely.
“This was something that happened. It changed my life for the better. I used to drink. I used to take hard substance drugs. I used to do anything capable of making anybody high. I stopped all this from 2020,” he revealed.
