‘Women Brought Me Down’ Alex Mathenge Quits Social Media, Lists Verified Pages for Sale
Popular Kenyan content creator Alex Mathenge has announced his exit from social media, citing personal struggles, grief, and heartbreak as the main reason behind his decision.
The influencer, known for his comedy sketches including his popular “fat cop” character, revealed that he is selling his verified social media pages Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube for an asking price of not less than KSh 500,000.
Mathenge’s announcement comes after a tumultuous three-year journey that saw him lose his father, support system, house, gigs, and family. “In 2024, I lost my Dad. The only person who genuinely supported me in my lowest moments. That was the lowest part of my life. Dad was like a bro to me,” he shared.
He described his experience in the content creation industry as being in a “demonic industry,” detailing a list of setbacks that left him depressed. The content creator said his weight dropped drastically from 105 kilograms to 77 kilograms, with those around him fearing for his life.
Mathenge stepped away from content creation three years ago, closing his studio and selling his equipment to prioritise his mental health. “You can’t let anyone lie to you that a man should not go to therapy,” he said, encouraging others to seek professional help. He checked himself into grief therapy, which he credits for helping him become happier, more productive, and financially stable.
After therapy and recovery, Mathenge struggled with whether to return to content creation. He ultimately made the decision to quit entirely. “Today I choose to quit social media entirely,” he declared.
In his final posts, he revealed the reason behind his departure: “I am quitting social media because of WOMEN! Women brought me down. I just want to be in a normal job like anyone else, behind a desk and be happy in the evening.“
His verified pages, which have an organic following, are now available for purchase. The interested buyer will be guided through the re-verification process upon transfer.
Mathenge signed off with, “Thank you 👏👏👏”
