‘Ruto Must Go’ Chants Disrupt Jaguar’s Set at Mataha Festival
Over the weekend, the MKU Pavilion in Thika played host to the latest edition of the Mataha Festival, a prominent event dedicated to Kikuyu music and cultural heritage.
Thousands of attendees gathered to enjoy performances from some of the genre’s biggest stars. However, the atmosphere shifted when singer-politician Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, took the stage.
As he attempted to greet the crowd, he was met with a wave of political slogans. Attendees loudly voiced “Ruto Must Go,” referencing the growing anti-government sentiment and the push for a single-term presidency for William Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections.
Despite the hostile reception, Jaguar maintained his composure, choosing to perform his hit track Matapeli, a song known for its sharp critique of political corruption which seemed to strike a chord with many in attendance.
