Kuwait Bans Recruitment of Domestic Workers From Kenya
Kuwait has announced a ban on the recruitment of domestic workers from Kenya and 26 other countries, according to a new directive from the nation’s Interior Ministry.
The decision, first reported by Gulf News, follows recommendations from several government bodies, including Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and the Public Authority for Manpower.
The ban applies to a wide range of nations across Africa. Alongside Kenya, the following countries have been blacklisted: Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Cabo Verde, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, The Central African Republic,The Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Angola, Madagascar, Uganda, Nigeria, Togo, Chad, Djibouti, Niger and Malawi,
On the other hand, domestic workers from several countries remain eligible for recruitment, though with specific restrictions. Nations still permitted include South Africa, Benin, Eritrea, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Vietnam, Nepal and Senegal.
According to reports, the latest measure is part of Kuwait’s effort to restructure and improve supervision of its domestic labor sector. Authorities are seeking to overhaul existing procedures and tighten controls to ensure better regulation of the industry.
