VALERIE KIMANI OPENS UP ABOUT CHOOSING WRONG MEN, HEALING HER TRAUMA AND FINDING HERSELF

By  |

Musician and wholeness coach Valerie Kimani, has spoke about her experiences in her 20s and finding herself in her 30s.

In a long post shared on social media, Valerie says she has outgrown her old self and evolved to a new person, “Don’t panic but Valerie Kimani is dead. The old me is gone. May she truly Rest in Peace. If you’re superstitious or scared to talk or think about death you may want to skip this. But you may also be a dead man walking and never know it. Pick your experience. It’s a weird feeling to outgrow your old self. It creates dissonance inside you as well as in everyone who’s subconsciously invested in you staying the same.

I sometimes wonder how people would eulogize the me they came to know in my twenties. I was reckless, bold and numb. Dangerous! I was like a passenger sitting calmly in the back seat of a car that was spinning out of control. Wait, is this my car? Am I supposed to be driving this thing? Hold on, say that again? For a minute I thought I heard you say that this was my mess to clean up.

My 24-year-old self was waiting for her dad to show up and rescue her. He didn’t. She looked for him in the eyes of every man who paid her even the slightest attention. Are you the one? They weren’t. Then she got pregnant. Nine months was just about enough time to pull herself out of the mangled wreck she had played a part in creating (think Grey’s Anatomy on steroids!)

It was time to assess the damage. Rethink priorities. Figure out who the heck I was! How do you even begin to find wholeness? That person buried deep inside who’s not broken. My journey started with Zion. My little boy who looked to me for answers that I didn’t have but now had a reason to find. A few more traumas and a decade later, I finally found myself. Meet you in my thirties.”
