In Kenya, many families consider sending their deceased kin in style as a way of giving them their last respects. While some families hold expensive burial ceremonies, others acquire very expensive coffins and a fleet of hearses to take their loved ones home.

As a result, funeral homes have come up with different costs of hiring hearses, including some that cost up to half a million per day. Recently, Delight Funeral Directors added a new Range Rover Limousine to their fleet of hearses, with the company saying it cost them Sh20 million.

Speaking to a local publication, the company’s representative said they would charge Sh500,000 per day for the use of the luxury car. “The limousine cost between Sh18-20 million. Now we charge Sh500,000. It just landed. The company itself has been around for five years,” he explained.

On why they resorted to having a limousine, he explained that the company was challenged to acquire the expensive vehicle to expand its quality offering. “Change from normal. We focus on daily improvement and our slogan is that quality runs deep. This is what guides us. We want to improve every day in all aspects,” he said

The maroon limousine has gull-wing doors and two transparent windshields on its sides covered with curtains. Inside, the car has a rotating panel on which rests the coffin is separated from the driver’s seat by a board.

The company has a fleet of expensive vehicles including Landcruiser hearses, a Jaguar Limousine, Prados that pulls chariots, normal vans, seven-seater hearses and Mercedes Benz hearses.
