WHY TRACY WANJIRU DECIDED NOT TO HAVE A BABY SHOWER

By  |

TV presenter Tracy Wanjiru has opened up on her pregnancy journey.

Speaking in an interview, the mother of one said she finds motherhood challenging, “Anytime anyone asks me how motherhood is, I always say it’s hard. No matter what anyone tells you it is so hard and demanding. It takes a lot from you. If you have the choice to plan, please just plan because a lot of things change.

For me, my identity changed a lot. The first year I wanted to go back to the old Tracy before being a mom. It was impossible, I kept battling with that. It brought me a lot of anxiety and depressive states at some point, because you’re fighting to go back there but you can’t, you now have a new identity and new path. I’m glad I’ve embraced it, but it did take me some time.”

Tracy also shared she had to go back to university after giving birth, “When I gave birth I had to go back to school, I kept telling myself, you’ve had a series of always deferring and never going back. So this time I was like, for the sake of this child, let me just finish, which I did. I’m excited about the fact that I graduated.”

The Capital FM presenter said she had not planned to keep her pregnancy a secret, “I have a two year old. I’m naturally just a very quiet person. I didn’t feel like I went out of my way to keep my pregnancy a secret. I used to go out for lunch and do things. I took a break from social media until after I gave birth.

Wanjiru also revealed she never had a baby shower, “I feel like my friendships started shifting as soon as I found out that I was pregnant. I stopped drinking and going out. That changes a lot because you’re not interacting with the people I used to.

My baby shower, I didn’t want it to feel like a party. Like people are just drunk, that’s not the energy I wanted. If we could just sit down and talk and eat and call it a day but many people don’t want. So I didn’t have a baby shower I just wanted to protect that energy.”
