Janet Mbugua Calls Out Politicians For Hijacking Awareness Events

Media personality and women’s health advocate Janet Mbugua has called out politicians for turning awareness events into platforms about themselves, singling out endometriosis advocate Natalie Githinji as “the example of what politicians could never be.“

Mbugua praised Githinji for using her own story as the door and walking the whole country through it to endometriosis. “She used her own story as the door and walked the whole country through it to endometriosis. Then a senator took the mic and the story became the senator,” she said.

The TV presenter likened the trend to how Members of Parliament are turning funerals into campaign stages. She further highlighted the plight of women living with endometriosis in Kenya, noting that surgery can cost up to a million shillings, and that the country does not even know how many women live with the condition. “Be enraged, then take that rage to the Senate. Where’s the endometriosis motion right now? Ask your senator,” she said.

Her remarks come just days after Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu learned the hard way. At Natalie Githinji’s Endometriosis Warriors event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on September 27, 2026, the senator was drowned out by thousands chanting “Wantam” and forced to cut her speech short.
