‘ITS MISOGYNISTIC’ EZEKIEL MUTUA CONDEMNS MAPANGALE DANCE CHALLENGE
The CEO of Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), Ezekiel Mutua, has spoke against the controversial Mapangale dance challenge trending on TikTok.
Dr. Mutua shared his concerns in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), where he described the challenge as harmful and damaging to societal values. “I am inundated with complaints about the ‘Mapangale dance’ challenge on TikTok. I have reviewed the clips and I agree that this kind of content normalises violence and is misogynistic,” he said.
He further noted that the challenge risks undermining Kenya’s social fabric and posed potential security concerns, stating: “I am liaising with the relevant authorities, particularly the Ministry of Interior, to ensure that such content does not jeopardise national security.”
The MCSK boss encouraged content creators to use their creativity to inspire hope and promote positive values. “In the meantime, we advise content creators to use their creativity to inspire hope and not to promote or glorify criminal behaviour,” he added. Dr. Mutua assured the public that a comprehensive statement would be released once MCSK aligns corrective actions with stakeholders and relevant authorities.
