Vivo Energy Investigating Viral Safety Incident at Shell Westview Station
Vivo Energy Kenya, the marketer and distributor of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants, has confirmed it is actively investigating a viral video circulating on social media that depicts unsafe behaviour during a refuelling transaction at the Shell Westview service station in Nairobi.
The incident, which occurred on the night of Wednesday, October 28, 2026, has drawn public concern after footage surfaced online showing reckless conduct during the fuel transaction.
In a statement released Thursday, the company condemned the actions captured in the video, characterising them as “irresponsible, reckless and negligent conduct.” The company said that such behaviour poses a serious risk to public safety and endangers lives. “Safety is our highest priority, and the behaviour shown in the video does not reflect the standards expected at any of the Shell service stations in Kenya,” the company stated.

Vivo Energy confirmed that it is taking the matter seriously and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident. The station’s retailer has immediately reported the matter to relevant authorities to facilitate an investigation and necessary action.
In response to the incident, the company announced it is reinforcing safety requirements across its network to ensure standards are constantly maintained. “We thank members of the public who have raised concerns and would like to reassure customers that we remain committed to maintaining the highest safety standards across our network,” the statement concluded.
