Maina Kageni Celebrates Ksh2 Million World Cup Bet Win After Spain’s Victory
Classic 105 radio presenter Maina Kageni is celebrating a massive payday after Spain’s dramatic FIFA World Cup final victory over Argentina secured him a KSh2 million bet.
The high-stakes wager pitted Kageni against Nairobi businessman Sam Mburu, with Kageni backing Spain and Mburu supporting Argentina. When the final whistle blew and Spain emerged victorious, Kageni walked away with both the cash and the bragging rights.
“IT’S OFFICIAL! 🚨 The KES 2,000,000 bet is now ON THE TABLE! No more talk. No more predictions. Everything is set, and now we wait for the final whistle to decide who walks away with the bragging rights. The stage is set. The pressure is on. History is about to be made. @mainawakageni, the ball is rolling… we’re waiting for the final whistle. 👀🔥” Mburu’s club announced.
Kageni’s Victory Speech
True to his larger-than-life personality, Kageni did not hold back in his celebration, “I made this bet… I won this bet… Congratulations Spain. Thank you Spain. Any other team but Argentina. Good Morning Sam Mburu! 👋🏾 Rehe Mbesha!!!”
This is not the first time the two have gone head-to-head in high-stakes betting. During Arsenal’s 2025-26 English Premier League title victory, Mburu won a KSh1 million bet from Kageni after backing the Gunners at the start of the season.
At that time, Mburu publicly reminded Kageni of their agreement, “My brother Maina Kageni, remember our Bet when the 25/26 EPL season Started? Now that Arsenal has won the EPL, please honour the Ksh 1,000,000/= Bet on Sunday as we watch the Season Finale matches together.“
True to his word, Kageni showed up with the full amount in cash. Handing over the money, he acknowledged the loss with characteristic grace, “Sam, even if the team was carried through the league, a loser who doesn’t accept defeat is not a winner. Here is Sh1 million. I have paid the debt.”
